Abstract

Two acetylcholinesteraseacetyl (AChE) inhibitors, dicentrine and isolaureline, were
isolated from the tuber of Stephania suberosa Forman (Menispermaceae). Their chemical
structures were proved using spectroscopic techniques such as NMR, MS, and IR. Dicentrine
showed the inhibitory activity against AChE in the same level as the well-known AChE
inhibitor, galanthamine, while its demethoxy derivative, isolauretine, showed about ten fold
lower activity.
