Abstract

The effect of dwell time on the physical properties and microstructure of lead zirconate
titanate ceramics (Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3: PZT) were prepared by a conventional mixed oxide method.
The optimum temperature for calcinations the formation of phase pure perovskite, was found to be
about 750 oC for 2 h with a heating/cooling rate of 10 oC/min. Phase formation was examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The sintering procedures were carried out at 1150 and 1200 oC for 2, 4 and
6 h with a heating/cooling rate of 5 oC/min. The effect of dwell time on physical properties and
microstructure was investigated. The results showed that the percent of linear shrinkage,
densification and average grain size increased with dwell time.
